Step 1: Optimal Box Selection
Choosing the right packaging is crucial for safeguarding your shipment during transit. Whenever possible, opt for a new corrugated box. Reused boxes may compromise protection due to wear and tear. Ensure the box is sturdy, devoid of any damage, and all flaps are intact. Remove any previous labels to avoid confusion during transit.
Select a box strength suitable for your items. Note that weight limits specified on the Box Maker’s Certificate are for palletized freight shipments, not small parcel carrier environments. Inadequate packaging might alter package dimensions, leading to unexpected shipping charges.
Step 2: Internal Cushioning
Effective internal cushioning is vital for protecting your package contents. Wrap each item separately, especially fragile ones, to prevent damage from shocks and vibrations. Maintain a cushion of at least two inches around each item, ensuring they are positioned away from the box walls. This prevents product-to-product contact, minimizing the risk of damage during transit.
Avoid improper cushioning materials such as clothing or newspaper. Instead, utilize recommended materials like air-encapsulated plastic, inflatable packaging, expanded polystyrene peanuts, engineered foam enclosures, or foam-in-place solutions. These materials offer optimal protection, reducing the chances of product damage.
Incorporating these steps ensures your shipment arrives safely, minimizing the risk of damage and potential shipping charge corrections.
